About BA Paper 2023

Business Administration Paper welcomes innovative business ideas on this year’s theme – “Sustainability Trailblazer”.

BA Paper 2023 consists of 3 stages of competition, namely, the First Round, Semi-Final, and the Grand Final.

Rules for Local Entry 

Team Eligibility (Local Track teams)

  • Full-time undergraduates from ANY university in Hong Kong, discipline, and year 
  • Students must register in a team of 2 to 4 members with at least 1 full-time business undergraduate. 
  • Cross-disciplinary and cross-university collaboration are encouraged but not required.

General Rules and Requirements: 

  • All submissions should be uploaded to a designated Google Form (Link will be provided at a later stage after registration) on or before the announced deadline by the Team Captain. 
  • Late submission of any required materials will be assumed by HKFBS as withdrawal from the competition.
  • No re-submission or modification of any submitted materials will be allowed.
  • Failure to comply with any of the competition rules may result in disqualification. 
  • HKFBS reserves the final right of decision in case of any disputes regarding the competition.

First Round: 

  • Bonus points will be awarded to local track teams in the first round with at least 2 representatives participating in the Grand Opening Ceremony.
  • Local entries and global entries will be assessed separately in the first round; 8 local teams and 2 global teams will be selected to compete together in the semi-final round.
  • All teams should submit a 5-page Executive Summary according to the theme. 
  • Specifications of the Executive Summary: 
    • The 5-Page Executive Summary should include the Introduction, Problem Statement, Business model, and Revenue model, etc.
    • The length of the Executive Summary should NOT EXCEED 5 A4-sized pages. 
    • Cover page is required, and should ONLY contain the team number and topic of the proposal. 
    • Names of the team members and universities should NOT appear in the Executive Summary 
    • Cover page, table of content, appendix, and references will not be marked.
    • The font Times New Romand in the size of 12pt with 1.5 line spacing and 1-inch page margin must be applied.
    • The Executive Summary should be submitted in pdf format and names with your team number (E.g. Team_22999.pdf) (The team number will be provided after registration)

Semi-Final: 

  • 8 Local Track teams and 2 Global Track teams will be selected as Semi-Finalists to compete together.
  • The 10 finalist teams will be randomly divided into 5 divisions with 2 teams each. 
  • All semi-finalists will be required to submit a 15-page written proposal with full details of their business idea, including but not limited to financial analyses and projections, marketing plans, implementation timeline, etc. 
  • The Semi-Final presentation will be in the format of a 10-minute uninterrupted presentation, followed by 3-minute Q&A by the opponent team in the same division and 5-minute Q&A by the Evaluation Committee.
  • The time limit for the Q&A session will only be applied to the presenting teams’ responses and does NOT include time used by the Evaluation Committee and opponent team in raising questions.
  • All Local Track semi-finalists will be required to attend the Semi-Final presentation in person.

Grand Final: 

  • 5 semi-finalist teams will be selected as Finalists.
  • All finalist teams will be required to submit a 20-page written proposal.
  • The final presentation will be in the format of a 15-minute uninterrupted presentation, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session by the Evaluation Committee.
  • The time limit for the Q&A session will only be applied to the presenting teams’ responses and does NOT include time used by the Evaluation Committee in raising questions.
  • All finalist teams will be required to attend the final presentation in person.
  • All local participating teams must attend the Grand Final to collect their Certificates of Participation.

Global Track 

Team Eligibility (Global Track teams)

  • Full-time undergraduates from ANY foreign university, discipline, and year 
  • Students must register in a team of 2 to 4 members with at least 1 full-time business undergraduate. 
  • Cross-disciplinary and cross-university collaboration are encouraged but not required.
  • A Global Track team may include student(s) from ANY university in Hong Kong, provided that there is at least 1 student from ANY foreign university in the team.

  • The final presentation will be in the format of a 15-minute uninterrupted presentation, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session by the Evaluation Committee.
  • The time limit for the Q&A session will only be applied to the presenting teams’ responses and does NOT include time used by the Evaluation Committee in raising questions.
  • Qualified Global Track teams may choose to attend the semi-final round presentation in person or virtually via ZOOM. Please be assured that the mode of presentation chosen will NOT impact the results.
  • Non-finalist Global Track teams are welcomed but not required to attend the Grand Final in person. 
  • Certificates of Participation will be delivered to the Team Captain after the Grand Final.
